Brandon Aiyuk remains under agreement for an additional season with the San Francisco 49ers. However, that does not necessarily guarantee his continued presence.
Still reeling from the heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, the Niners’ wide receiver recently spoke with the media.
During the conversation, a reporter inquired about Aiyuk’s thoughts on the 49ers’ season, considering their status as the NFC’s top seed and their near miss in securing a championship ring.
He tearfully responded, “A group of individuals who dedicated themselves to becoming champions every single day.”
When asked about his desire to stay with the 49ers, Aiyuk replied, “Only if it’s the right decision,” emphasizing the importance of being a champion.
However, those closest to Aiyuk were more forthcoming with their sentiments.
His girlfriend, Rochelle Searight, shared a TikTok video that hinted at the possibility that the 25-year-old may have played his final game for San Francisco.
Additionally, Aiyuk’s best friend, Draysean Hudson, expressed his opinion on the receiver’s future in the Bay Area in a series of direct messages on Instagram. Hudson stated, “This is precisely why we are leaving San Francisco. Thank you, 49ers, for selecting my brother. We will forever be grateful. BA to Vegas.”
He further questioned, “Why did your All Pro 1300 only have three catches in the Super Bowl?”
Aiyuk has spent his entire professional career with the 49ers after being selected as the 25th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft from Arizona State University. Since then, he has emerged as one of the league’s most effective receivers, boasting career highs of 17.9 yards per reception, a 71.4% catch rate, and a total of 1,342 receiving yards in 2023.
Entering the final year of his rookie contract, the wideout could potentially be traded if he and the team fail to reach an agreement on a long-term extension.
