Four charges arising from two separate incidents against Miles Bridges, forward for the Charlotte Hornets, were dismissed on Tuesday, according to a report by The Athletic.
Bridges was allegedly involved in an occurrence in October between himself and the mother of his children. A criminal summons was issued, accusing him of misdemeanor child abuse and damage to personal property. The summons claimed that he hurled billiard balls at the woman’s vehicle, resulting in dents and a shattered windshield. Furthermore, he purportedly threatened to withhold child support if she reported the incident to the authorities.
The Mecklenburg County District Court dismissed three charges related to these incidents, as well as the fourth charge, which accused Bridges of violating a protective order against domestic violence. The court in North Carolina dismissed the cases due to “insufficient evidence to reconcile the conflicting accounts, making it unlikely for the state to succeed at trial.”
Bridges’ initial incident occurred in June 2022 when he allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend in front of their two children. He was apprehended two days later and charged with one felony count of harming a parent of a child and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances likely to cause severe bodily harm or death. The NBA conducted its own investigation and imposed a 30-game suspension on Bridges, resulting in him missing the entire 2022-23 season.
He was arrested once again in November and entered a plea of no contest to a felony charge of domestic violence in Los Angeles. In a negotiated agreement with the prosecutors, Bridges received three years of probation and avoided jail time. Additionally, he was required to undergo counseling for domestic violence and parenting classes for a full year, complete 100 hours of community service, and undergo weekly drug tests for narcotics.
In December, Bridges was denied entry into Canada for the Hornets’ game against the Raptors due to his legal issues and the ongoing cases.
This season, Bridges has been performing at his best, averaging 21.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 7.2 total rebounds.
