With the Super Bowl just around the corner, the National Football League (NFL) is at the forefront of every single sports-related conversation.
Even National Basketball Association (NBA) stars have shared their opinions on the big game, the most significant sporting event of the year.
Notably, that includes Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who recently had a conversation with Ryan Clark and the Inside the NFL crew ahead of the Super Bowl.
Barkley recounted the story of his brief foray into football, stating that it simply wasn’t his preferred activity.
True to his character, Barkley asserted that he found no skill in the sport after being positioned as a defensive tackle and continuously running at full speed against another player for hours. He made it clear that he had no intentions of repeating that experience.
Basketball enthusiasts should be grateful for this.
The Auburn University alumnus went on to become one of the greatest players in NBA history, a legendary power forward, and one of the most exceptional rebounders despite his smaller stature.
During his prime, Barkley was a force to be reckoned with. He could forcefully penetrate the restricted area and also showcased his passing ability and impressive footwork.
Barkley was one of the players who fell victim to Michael Jordan’s dominance, as he retired without a championship ring due to the Chicago Bulls legend’s overwhelming presence. He even lost to Jordan in the NBA Finals on one occasion.
Nevertheless, Barkley ultimately made it to the Hall of Fame and received recognition for his accomplishments in the league. This may not have been the case if he had pursued a career in football.
