Carlos Sainz emerged as the victor at the Australian Grand Prix, outperforming his teammate Charles Leclerc. The race proved to be a successful one for Ferrari, as they secured a one-two finish. Unfortunately, Leclerc’s car experienced a brake failure, leading to his retirement from the race. Despite his disappointment, Sainz showcased an incredible drive at Albert Park, ultimately defeating Leclerc.
Leclerc was asked about his emotions after being bested by his teammate. The 26-year-old admitted that he couldn’t claim to be happy with Sainz’s victory. It was a bittersweet moment for Leclerc, as he had missed out on the opportunity to win the race himself. Nevertheless, Ferrari celebrated a triumph and gained valuable points.
However, Leclerc didn’t hesitate to praise Sainz for his outstanding performance over the weekend. He acknowledged that Sainz had done an excellent job at the Australian Grand Prix. Now, it was up to Leclerc to respond positively to the victory and strive to win a race later in the season. It’s worth noting that Sainz had already won a race in the 2023 season, despite Red Bull’s dominance. On the other hand, Leclerc’s most recent race victory was in Austria 2022.
While applauding Sainz, Leclerc also took the opportunity to highlight his own talent. He noted that in Formula 1, people tend to forget quickly and judge based on the latest race. As a result, Leclerc’s previous performances may not have appeared as impressive compared to Sainz. However, he emphasized that his performances in the previous eight or nine races were at an excellent level, surpassing Sainz’s.
Looking ahead, Ferrari has displayed consistent performance since the start of the 2024 season. The team currently holds the runner-up position, with a significant gap to McLaren. With this in mind, Ferrari aims to challenge Red Bull consistently in the upcoming races.
