The Clippers are preparing to relocate to a new stadium before the start of the 2024-25 season, and the team aims to distinguish itself with the assistance of “The Wall,” an ambitious fan section where spectators must adhere to a distinct set of rules.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been sharing the current venue, known as Crypto.com Arena, with the Lakers since the early 2000s. However, the franchise revealed its intention to move to a new facility in Inglewood, near SoFi Stadium, a few years ago.
Construction on the Intuit Dome, as it has been named, commenced in 2021. This process involved the installation of a massive halo-shaped scoreboard and numerous toilets, which Clippers owner Steve Ballmer considers a significant accomplishment for his passion project.
While many college basketball teams benefit from a dedicated student section filled with enthusiastic supporters rallying behind a common cause, this is not typically seen at NBA games. Nevertheless, the Clippers are striving to change that.
Recently, the team unveiled its plans for “The Wall,” a section of the arena situated behind one of the baskets that will feature “51 uninterrupted rows of passionate Clippers fans.”
The announcement also outlined a code of conduct that individuals wishing to sit in The Wall must adhere to. This includes a clause stating, “If you choose to be a part of The Wall, you (and your guests) cannot cheer for the opposing team or wear any gear that supports our opponents” (those who violate these guidelines will face permanent expulsion).
To monitor The Wall, the Clippers will implement their own version of a “Verified Fan” program. Those interested in sitting in this section will need to provide evidence of their loyalty through an application process, which involves following the team on Instagram and submitting a photo of themselves wearing Clippers merchandise.
Only time will reveal whether The Wall achieves its intended impact, but it is certainly a captivating concept.
