The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed dissatisfaction with Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam for conducting Q&A sessions with fans. Recently, Afridi and Azam engaged in interactive sessions on X (previously known as Twitter), connecting with their followers. These sessions garnered a total of 24,000 viewers, which has raised concerns within the PCB.
According to a report from the Times of India, the PCB is displeased with the Q&A sessions and fears that they may lead to controversies, something the board wants to avoid. As a result, the PCB has initiated a review of the players’ contracts in response to these sessions.
The PCB recently appointed a new Chairman, replacing Zaka Ashraf, who resigned several months ago. The newly elected Chairman will serve for a three-year term.
During one of Shaheen Afridi’s Q&A sessions, a fan asked the Pakistan captain about the most challenging batsman to bowl to. While many were expecting names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, Joe Root, or even his teammate Babar Azam, Afridi surprised everyone by naming Hashim Amla as the toughest opponent. Afridi and Amla have faced each other in two Tests and five ODIs, with Afridi managing to take only two wickets.
Shaheen Afridi recently assumed the role of Pakistan’s T20I captain during their tour of New Zealand. However, the team struggled, winning only one out of the five T20Is played. Pakistan is scheduled to tour England in May before the ICC T20I World Cup in 2024.
