Chilean golfers have been making waves in the sport, with Joaquin Niemann and Cristobal Del Solar both achieving impressive feats. Niemann, who recently left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf, emerged victorious in the first race of the 2024 Arabian Super League. Meanwhile, Del Solar, a 30-year-old from Vina del Mar, made history by achieving a record score in Colombia’s Astara Golf Championship.
Del Solar’s remarkable round of 57 (-13) strokes in the Korn Ferry Tour was unprecedented on a par 70 course. In fact, the last time a similar score was achieved was in 2019, when Englishman David Carey signed a round of 57 strokes in Italy’s Cervino Open. However, Carey’s round was eleven under par, whereas Del Solar managed to go thirteen under par.
This incredible achievement also marks the ninth round under 60 strokes in the history of the Korn Ferry Tour. Del Solar surpassed the previous records set by Jim Furyk and Stephan Jager, who shot rounds of 58 strokes (-12) in the 2016 Travelers Championship (PGA Tour) and the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic (Korn Ferry Tour) respectively. These rounds had been the records for the main professional tours in the USA until now.
The Rules of Golf, which provide the standard rules and procedures for the sport, are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association. These rules are periodically reviewed and refined by an expert commission from both organizations. The most recent revision took effect on January 1, 2016, and aimed to improve understanding and balance by reducing penalties in certain cases. The rule book, titled “Rules of Golf,” is regularly published and also includes regulations on amateur status. In Italy, Federgolf is responsible for enforcing these rules and ensuring fair play in competitions, as well as protecting the interests of clubs, associations, and their members internationally.
