Denny Hamlin expressed his desire to see Chase Elliott take a more active role in NASCAR’s marketing efforts. Hamlin, a well-known figure in the sport, is often criticized for his behavior on the track. On the other hand, Elliott, who has a large fan base inherited from his father, Bill Elliott, is known for being reserved. However, this reserved nature and lack of effort in promoting the sport make him less appealing to casual fans. Hamlin, on the other hand, is open to investing more time in promoting NASCAR, despite his reputation as a villain. With the current lack of superstar presence in NASCAR, if Elliott steps up, it could have a positive impact on the sport.
During a recent podcast hosted by a former NASCAR Cup champion, Hamlin made these claims. He and the other veterans agreed that Elliott isn’t doing enough to promote the sport and seems solely focused on racing. Hamlin believes that Elliott doesn’t fully grasp the extent of his influence within the racing community. Hamlin also mentioned a recent podcast with Dale Earnhardt Jr. where Elliott stated his sole focus is on racing and acknowledged the stance of Chevy drivers.
Hamlin’s demand for more involvement from Elliott in the marketing side of NASCAR is justified. If Elliott is unwilling to share more about his personal life and journey with fans, he should at least engage more with them and try to attract new fans to the sport.
