Count Din Thomas is one of those who are frustrated with Conor McGregor. Thomas, a former UFC lightweight turned fight analyst, has grown weary of the rollercoaster ride McGregor has taken everyone on for his highly-anticipated comeback to the octagon. “The Notorious” has been teasing a return to action ever since recovering from a gruesome leg injury and coaching on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter last year, opposite Michael Chandler.
Despite months of targeting and even proposing specific dates, McGregor has yet to secure a fight against Chandler or anyone else. Thomas expressed his disapproval, stating, “I don’t appreciate playing with people’s emotions like that. I don’t like how a guy with so much influence can string Michael Chandler along. I don’t like how he disrespected the entire show of TUF by not showing up half the time. And when it comes to fighting, I simply don’t like how he’s stringing the entire community along.”
McGregor’s return has faced its fair share of obstacles. According to the former two-division champion, he is eager to step back into the octagon, but his return to the USADA pool caused a delay. Now that McGregor is back on track with anti-doping testing, the ball is in his court.
However, for Thomas, the waiting game has become tiresome. He wishes that fans could shift their focus to other active fighters who are currently performing at a high level. “I hope we can just move on from him,” Thomas remarked. “I genuinely wish we could forget about him. Despite that, he undeniably brings in a significant amount of money, and the UFC clearly believes that his fights will generate substantial numbers. I just don’t like giving one person that much power. Personally, I’ve already forgotten about him. The fanbase still supports him, and they would still want to see him fight. He has a movie coming out, and I thought maybe he would fight to promote it.”
McGregor will be playing the role of Knox in the upcoming remake of “Road House” alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, set to be released on Prime Video on March 21. Acting is just one of the many avenues McGregor has explored to maintain his income while his fighting career remains uncertain.
UFC CEO Dana White has expressed hope that a fight between McGregor and Chandler will come together in the fall, marking the latest proposed timeline for McGregor’s return. Thomas finds this timeline puzzling, questioning why the summer has already been ruled out. He even jokingly adds, “I might even fight in the summer, and I’ve been retired for over a decade. I don’t understand it.”
