Both models ceased production at the end of the previous year. While the Dodge is set to make a comeback with a new look and a combination of electric and gasoline power, possibly under the Charger name, there is no news yet of a new Chevrolet Camaro.
There are rumors that the bowtie brand’s muscle car will return in a new generation, as GM themselves have stated that the Camaro story is not over. It would make sense for the new Camaro to have both EV and ICE power, similar to the upcoming Charger. According to a recent report, the new Charger could be unveiled in less than a month.
It’s important to note that just because the Challenger and Camaro are no longer in production, it doesn’t mean that owners of these powerful V8 machines can’t still enjoy them. In fact, they are still very common at drag strips across the country and even overseas.
In a recent event at the Mission Raceway Park in Canada, a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack took on other muscle cars. The final R/T Scat Pack Dodge came in two versions, including a Widebody trim, and both were equipped with a 485 horsepower 6.4-liter V8 engine. While this may not match the Camaro ZL1’s 650 horsepower from its 6.2L supercharged engine, the familiarity of the Dodge owner with their ride often made the difference in the races.
Apart from racing against the Chevy Camaro ZL1, this Challenger Scat Pack also competed against a Ford Mustang GT at the drag strip. The Mustang GT, with similar power to the Dodge, proved to be a better competitor than the Camaro ZL1, not just in straight-line speed, but in other aspects as well. The video showcases multiple drag races involving muscle cars, including the Challenger Scat Pack, Camaro ZL1, Mustang GT, and occasionally the Challenger Hellcat.
This is a great opportunity to place a friendly wager. Remember that it’s not just about what’s under the hood, as the skill of the driver also plays a significant role in a head-to-head quarter-mile battle. With that in mind, enjoy watching the races!
