I thoroughly enjoy witnessing the moment when a goalie’s water bottle is forcefully dislodged from the back of the net after a player successfully scores a goal. Regrettably, in the NHL, the introduction of modern bottle holders on the back of the nets has deprived us, the avid bottle-pop enthusiasts, of witnessing such occurrences. Nevertheless, one can still witness remarkable bottle pops at lower levels of play. Recently, I came across a video featuring what appears to be a high school player who transforms a bottle pop into one of the most remarkable celebrations I have ever witnessed. Unfortunately, I could not gather much information about the video, but it was shared by TikTok user Brady Films.
As previously mentioned, the footage seems to depict a high school game where the shooter skillfully places the puck in the top corner of the net. This exceptional shot leads to a classic bottle pop. However, what truly stands out is when the player takes a sip from the popped bottle. The level of comical disrespect displayed in this act is simply unbelievable. It is evident that he immediately recognizes the consequences and the need to serve a penalty for his actions. Surprisingly, none of the opposing players seize the opportunity to celebrate alongside him, as mentioned in the comments of the video. If I were the goalie and witnessed my bottle being popped and consumed by an opponent, with no response from my teammates, I would certainly address the matter in the locker room.
This incident also brings back a humorous memory from my own high school days. Goalies tend to despise any interference with their water bottles. In our team, we had a goalie who kept his bottle on top of the net. One day during practice, someone accidentally struck it with a powerful shot, resulting in the goalie becoming furious and reprimanding the rest of the team, strictly instructing them not to aim at his water bottle. Naturally, this incident only encouraged everyone to aim directly below the crossbar, specifically targeting the bottle. Although this celebration may not have pleased the goalie who conceded the goal, it certainly brought me immense joy. There is something truly satisfying about witnessing the popping of bottles.
