In the world of Cincinnati Reds’ young player, Elly De La Cruz, things are going quite well during Spring training. The 22-year-old has already made a name for himself by breaking numerous MLB records in his debut season. And now, he’s back to making an impact, quite literally, by smashing his teammate’s car.
During a BP session in Phoenix, Cruz faced off against Hunter Greene. As the two teammates engaged in an intense training session, Cruz hit a high foul ball that ended up soaring out of the park. Unfortunately for Greene, the ball found its way to his luxurious car and shattered the window.
Later, De La Cruz and Greene shared a photo of the incident. De La Cruz can be seen holding the ball while Greene points to the damage. In a lighthearted manner, the pitcher jokingly asked De La Cruz to foot the bill, to which De La Cruz responded, “You make more money than me.”

According to reports from Fox News, Greene’s car is a Mercedes-MayBach GLS SUV, which carries a hefty price tag of $200,000. Repairing such a luxurious vehicle will undoubtedly come at a high cost. It remains unclear who will ultimately be responsible for covering the damages.
As the 2024 season approaches, players are gearing up for what promises to be a monumental year. Elly De La Cruz has now revealed his goal for the upcoming campaign.
Since his debut, the 22-year-old has electrified the Cincinnati Reds and has emerged as one of the team’s top stars. While his hitting prowess has been on display during training camp, his speed has also made him one of the fastest players in the league. He now aims to steal approximately 80 bases in the next season.
During a media interview at Spring training, De La Cruz expressed his preference for stealing bases over hitting home runs. He stated that he enjoys running and is thus more interested in stealing bases. Whether he will achieve this goal or not remains to be seen. However, he did show signs of potential when he successfully stole all bases in a single inning.

Last year, De La Cruz made history by becoming the first member of the 40-70 club. He stole an impressive 73 bases, which played a significant role in him being named the National League MVP.
One of the main reasons for the increase in stolen bases in 2023 was the implementation of larger bases and fielding shift rules. De La Cruz will be aiming to break Acuna Jr.’s record this year as he strives to turn things around for the Reds and push for a spot in the postseason.
