Journalist Luka Nikolic of Meridian Sport Global recently disclosed how Novak Djokovic experienced a high temperature the night prior to his loss in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2024 against Jannik Sinner.
Nikolic stated that Djokovic had been unwell for three weeks and had a relapse. Consequently, his performance in the first two sets was visibly weakened and he was unable to play at his best, as revealed by Nikolic.
Goran Ivanisevic, coach of the Serbian champion, promptly dismissed these rumors and provided clarification.
“Sooner or later, Novak had to face defeat, and we were all aware of this fact. It is unfortunate that it unfolded in this manner, but when facing Sinner, one must be at their peak to stand a chance. Even at 100%, victory is not guaranteed,” stated the former Wimbledon champion in an interview with the Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.
“Nevertheless, the entire Australian Open was challenging for Novak, starting from the very first round. However, that is not a cause for concern; let us move forward. It is not a tragedy. Did he have any issues? No, nothing was troubling him. He was healthy, but something was simply amiss. It can happen to anyone; he is only human. On the other hand, if he had to lose to someone, I am glad that Sinner was the chosen one,” he added.
According to the official website, Djokovic will make his return to the court directly at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 and will not be participating in the Dubai ATP 500 tournament.
Transitioning from one superstar to another, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has revealed why he considers Novak Djokovic to be his favorite athlete in a different sport.
The @NovakIndiaFans account recently shared a post in which the Norwegian selected Novak Djokovic as his sports hero.
“I admire Djokovic. I believe he is exceptional. He stays true to himself, and what he has accomplished is truly remarkable, especially considering his humble beginnings and representing his country. Therefore, I choose Djokovic,” shared Haaland.
