Nadal has withdrawn from his planned comeback event in Qatar next week and confirmed in his statement that he is eager to ensure he is in good shape for the match against Alcaraz and the upcoming Indian Wells Masters event.
Netflix is currently streaming the highly anticipated match between Nadal and Alcaraz, and if it proves to be successful, it may lead to speculation about the streaming service’s future involvement in live tennis broadcasts.
Following the success of the Netflix show Break Point, which provided viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the ATP and WTA Tours, the streaming service is now looking to expand its tennis offerings with this match between Nadal and Alcaraz.
However, fans hoping to attend the exhibition contest are being asked to pay exorbitant prices to catch a glimpse of these two tennis stars in person.
Court-side seats have already sold out at a price of $3,000 each, and even a seat in the lower tier of the stands will cost $500.
Tickets in the second tier of the stands are available for $250, and with most seats already sold, a sell-out is imminent.
When compared to the prices for tickets at this summer’s prestigious Wimbledon Championships, the pricing structure for this exhibition event seems particularly steep. Official outlets are selling tickets for the opening two days on Centre Court for £80, which is approximately $100.
“I am honored and incredibly happy to be sharing the court with Rafa in Las Vegas,” said Wimbledon champion Alcaraz in an interview with Netflix. “He is undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time, and his records and achievements speak for themselves.”
“I am very excited for my first visit to Las Vegas,” Nadal told Netflix. “I am also thrilled to be playing alongside my fellow countryman Carlos Alcaraz. I am confident that it will be an amazing night of tennis.”
Additional players and matchups for the exhibition event will be announced at a later date, promising an electrifying atmosphere on the court.
Nadal’s latest comeback will now take place at this exhibition event after he made the decision to withdraw from the Qatar Open next week.
The Spanish tennis player revealed that he had been experiencing some discomfort in recent days, leading to speculation that he may skip the tournament in Doha. This speculation has now been confirmed.
“I would have loved to play in Doha, where the tournament team, as well as the incredible Qatar fans, have always shown me great support,” Nadal stated in a social media post.
“Unfortunately, I am not ready to compete, and I will not be able to travel to Doha, where I really wanted to be and play again after my unforgettable victory in 2014.
“I will focus on continuing to work hard to be ready for the exhibition in Las Vegas and the incredible Indian Wells tournament.”
Nadal has previously expressed his desire to participate in the ATP Tour event at Indian Wells, as he believes it may be his final appearance at the tournament in California.
