We are just a few days away from Super Bowl LVIII, where the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs will once again face off. This matchup may disappoint some football fans who were hoping for a different team to make it to the big game.
However, for those who aren’t particularly invested in the outcome of the game (aside from their bets), there are other aspects of Super Bowl Sunday that they will focus on. These include enjoying drinks with friends, indulging in delicious food, critiquing the Super Bowl commercials, and, of course, watching the Halftime Show. This year, Usher is set to perform, and while he is listed as a solo act, there are expectations that he will bring out guest performers like Lil John and Ludacris, as they are an integral part of his hit song “Yeahhh!”
Although I anticipate Usher’s performance to be decent, it likely won’t be groundbreaking. Interestingly, when I asked people who they would like to see perform at the Halftime Show, the majority voted for a rock band. This hasn’t happened since The Who in 2010, or if you consider Maroon 5’s use of electric guitars, since 2019.
Surprisingly, Metallica received an overwhelming number of votes. Initially, when someone suggested a high school marching band as their choice, I thought they were joking. However, more and more people expressed their desire to see a marching band perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. This idea may not be favored by the network executives, but it certainly gained traction among the voters.
On a different note, there were a few responses advocating for Weird Al Yankovic to perform. It seems that the same person, using multiple burner accounts, has a peculiar obsession with the “Amish Paradise” singer. While there’s nothing against Weird Al, perhaps he would be better suited for a Nickelodeon Slimetime game.
One genre that has been noticeably absent from the Super Bowl Halftime Show is country music. Surprisingly, Garth Brooks has never performed at the event. Considering that country music has become quite popular these days, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new-era country artist like Zach Bryan or Jelly Roll take the stage in the near future.
As for Taylor Swift, I predict that she will be the first to perform at the Halftime Show in the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium in Nashville, which is set to open for the 2027-2028 season. Remember, you heard it here first!
Speaking of Swift, she is among my top 5 artists who I believe should perform at the Halftime Show. My list, in no particular order, includes Oasis, Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, and Billy Joel.
Despite the fact that only a few individuals are genuinely excited about Usher’s performance on Sunday, as a lifelong music fan, I can assure you that he will do a good job and the set will be energetic, upbeat, and fun. So, while it’s important not to dismiss it entirely, it’s also best not to have overly high expectations.
