Is there a deliberate plot to undermine the San Francisco 49ers?
The Niners received an unwelcome surprise on Thursday morning when the fire alarm blared at their hotel in Las Vegas. Despite assurances from engineers that it was a false alarm and there was no need for evacuation, the piercing sound persisted for a grueling 18 minutes before it could be silenced.
Tight end George Kittle sought refuge in the bathroom until the noise finally ceased. However, other players, namely Christian McCaffrey and Nick Bosa, did not take the unexpected wake-up call lightly.
According to Kittle, after conducting an informal poll among his teammates to determine who was the most disgruntled, both McCaffrey and Bosa seemed convinced that the alarm was no accident. “It had to be them,” Kittle remarked, referring to the duo. “You don’t want to disturb the sleeping bear. But Christian was equally displeased.”
In fact, McCaffrey went on to express his belief that the alarm was deliberately triggered. “I don’t think it was a random occurrence,” he stated. “It’s all part of a larger scheme. It’s just adding fuel to the fire.”
Bosa also recalled previous incidents of hotel mischief experienced by the team during their travels. “I’m certain someone did it,” he asserted. “It reminded me of when we were in Philly and there was construction noise outside our hotel early in the morning. They were demolishing a bridge right next to us. We haven’t been particularly lucky. But we won’t make any excuses.”
Even McCaffrey’s mother, Lisa, joined the conversation during the latest episode of her podcast, Your Mom, with Ashley Adamson. Lisa confidently claimed that the alarm incident was an inside job, stating, “I’m one hundred percent sure because there was no real emergency.”
When asked about potential culprits, Lisa responded, “I’m not sure… Their hotel is heavily secured, so I doubt it was a fan infiltrating. My guess is it could have been an employee from Kansas City.”
Currently in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII preparations, the San Francisco 49ers have expressed concerns about the condition of the practice field at UNLV.
Alarm-gate is just the latest hurdle the Niners have faced since arriving in Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII. The team remains dissatisfied with the quality of the practice fields provided by UNLV this week. Officials, coaches, and players have all observed that the sod laid over the turf is much softer than expected.
Nevertheless, the show must go on.
“Our main focus is reaching Sunday and being as well-prepared as possible,” Bosa affirmed. “If we have to overcome a few more challenges along the way, we’re prepared to do so.”
The 49ers have one final practice session at UNLV on Friday to conclude their week of preparations. After that, they hope to enjoy a couple of restful nights before the highly anticipated game on Sunday—assuming no one else decides to pull the fire alarm.
