Klay Thompson had an outstanding performance for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday evening, scoring 35 points as a substitute and appearing to be back to his usual self.
However, despite his impressive game, some individuals believe that his time with Golden State is nearing its end.
During an appearance on “Undisputed,” Michael Irvin expressed his belief that Thompson will not be a part of the Warriors next year.
He pointed to the recent rumors about the team’s pursuit of LeBron James as evidence of this.
“When I heard about the possibility of LeBron joining Golden State, I knew that Klay’s situation was finished,” Irvin remarked, noting that while the rumors discussed James playing alongside Stephen Curry, none of them mentioned him playing alongside Curry and Thompson.
Even prior to the start of the season, the future between Thompson and the Warriors seemed uncertain.
The two parties were unable to reach a contract extension, and it was widely agreed upon that a lot was riding on the upcoming season.
If Thompson performed well, he would likely be offered a maximum contract by the team.
If not, he would have to settle for something less.
Certainly, it is well-known that Thompson has experienced arguably the worst season of his career, which has resulted in stalled contract negotiations and speculation that he may not even be with the Warriors in 2024-25.
This would be a significant change for both the Warriors and Thompson, who has been a key part of the team’s four championships and remains one half of the renowned Splash Brothers.
There is still a possibility that Thompson will stay with the team and turn his season around.
Thursday night’s game may have been the beginning of something extraordinary for him.
However, there is also a chance that Thompson could be on the brink of departing from the only NBA team he has ever played for.
