Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis assured Conor Benn, a welterweight contender from Britain, today that he will take charge of the negotiations with his promoter, Eddie Hearn, in order to arrange a fight between them.
Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) seems genuinely interested in facing the popular Conor. However, his recent performance was disappointing as he struggled against an unknown opponent Hearn matched him with in Las Vegas last Saturday night.
American fans do not see the value in Tank Davis fighting Conor Benn, who has not displayed the same skills as his renowned father, Nigel Benn, especially in his last two fights. Conor’s power seems to have diminished, and he is once again struggling against lower-level opponents, as he has in the past.
Gervonta Davis: “Relax, let me and your boss work. We got it 👌🤝”
Conor Benn: “Offer on its way Gervumpa Lumpa, Gervonta. Let’s go.”
Fan Skepticism and Network Concerns
Boxing fans still doubt whether Tank Davis will be allowed by his management at PBC to fight Benn. They suspect that his idea will be rejected because of the different promoters and networks involved, as DAZN is not associated with PBC.
A split broadcast fight between Tank Davis and Benn, with Amazon Prime PPV and DAZN involved, is unlikely to attract a large audience for either network. Benn lacks popularity in the U.S., and Gervonta has not proven himself capable of generating significant buys outside of his fight with influencer Ryan Garcia, who many believe was the main reason for the success of their clash in April, thanks to his 11 million Instagram followers.
If Tank Davis intends to fight someone from a different network, he should consider facing fighters like Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, or Subriel Matias instead of Conor Benn.
Tank’s management at PBC will probably deliver the disappointing news to him, informing him that his idea of fighting Benn cannot materialize due to the lack of interest from U.S. boxing fans and the inability to generate the desired financial returns.
