Sergio Perez achieved a second consecutive second place finish in the 2024 season at Saudi Arabia. Red Bull had a nearly flawless performance on Sunday in Jeddah, securing a 1-2 result at the Saudi Arabian GP. The race was won by their driver starting from the Pole position, while Perez finished in second place, 13.643 seconds behind the winner. However, there was a moment during the race where Perez’s solid performance could have been ruined by another driver. The former Red Bull driver spun on a chicane at lap 49, but it was not a significant incident that warranted a caution flag. Fortunately, the driver was able to save the car from hitting the barriers, avoiding any major consequences. Helmut Marko, a Red Bull advisor, expressed his concern when he witnessed the spin, knowing that it could have negatively impacted Perez’s race.
During the Saudi Arabian GP, there were rumors about a potential suspension for Helmut Marko as a Red Bull advisor. However, it seems that his position is secure for now. Nonetheless, negotiations are still planned between Marko and the majority shareholder of Red Bull, Chalerm Yoovidhya. It has been suggested that Mercedes might have an opening for Marko, as they have been without a senior advisor since the death of a Formula One legend. Marko appreciated the offer from Mercedes’ team principal, Toto Wolff, but he made it clear that he is currently content at Red Bull. Wolff jokingly commented on Marko’s situation, as his contract with Red Bull has yet to be finalized. The Austrian advisor is currently happy with his position at Red Bull, although he may be facing challenges in sharing power with Christian Horner, the team principal.
