German driver Nico Hulkenberg has dismissed claims that Audi’s German identity played a significant role in his decision to switch teams ahead of the carmaker’s entry into Formula 1. Hulkenberg recently signed a multi-term agreement with Sauber, which will eventually become Audi’s factory team. While Audi’s branding won’t be visible until 2026, the team’s representative revealed that they will be actively involved in driver discussions. Hulkenberg believes that being part of the Sauber team beforehand will give him an advantage when Audi joins the sport. He emphasized that his decision was based on finding the best sporting opportunity rather than the nationality of the team.
