LeBron James once earned nearly $50,000 in a game of poker against his Miami Heat teammates, before humorously flaunting his winnings.
LeBron, who has consistently been the face of the NBA over the years, succeeded a certain individual in this role. While both individuals were exceptional in their own right, the latter, known for his gambling addiction, would frequently wager large sums of money on trivial matters due to his competitive nature.
In contrast, LeBron is often seen as a devoted family man and a role model in all aspects of life. However, according to a former teammate, it appears that even James had a tendency to back up his words with money.
During his time with the Miami Heat, LeBron emerged victorious in a poker game, pocketing approximately $45,000. His opponents in this game included notable players such as Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers. Chalmers himself disclosed this information in a video by LatsWatchHoops, stating:
Following this revelation, LeBron playfully showcased the truck he purchased with his winnings:
This game took place during a team flight for the Miami Heat. As a result, not only were Chalmers and Wade involved, but the game also unfolded in front of their other teammates. LeBron, not content with just winning, took his celebration to the next level by splurging on a truck, much to Chalmers’ dismay.
LeBron’s playful taunting did not end there. The following week, he arrived at practice in the very truck he had purchased, causing Chalmers to express his desire to destroy it. Although LeBron is not typically associated with the same level of relentless competitiveness as MJ, he does possess a competitive streak.
This competitive spirit has propelled him to 20 All-Star appearances, and even at the age of 39, LeBron remains the Los Angeles Lakers’ top player. With the possibility of teaming up with his son Bronny in the NBA, James appears determined to continue proving himself.
