Ray-Ray McCloud’s mishap led to the Chiefs gaining possession of the loose ball and turning it into a touchdown.
Late in the third quarter, a wide receiver from the San Francisco 49ers attempted to recover a loose ball after a punt from the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful as the ball took an unexpected bounce, resulting in McCloud’s failure.
Among the various factors that contributed to the 49ers’ devastating Super Bowl loss, McCloud’s mistake was quite evident. On the very next play, their opponents managed to gain control of the loose ball and convert it into a touchdown, ultimately aiding in their late-game recovery.
However, the receiver’s failure garnered significant attention from fans, to the point where McCloud himself had to interact with a fan who suggested that if he hadn’t failed, the Niners wouldn’t have lost the Super Bowl. The fan wrote:
“If you don’t understand football, don’t comment on the play! Because that wasn’t a muff, silly boy!”
McCloud had to defend himself on social media by stating that he didn’t muff the punt and was actually attempting to recover the loose ball when he went after it. He wrote:
“Prior to the big game, the 49ers receiver McCloud made headlines after expressing disinterest in meeting the renowned superstar, who was expected to be present at the game due to her high-profile relationship with the opposition’s tight end.
Fans were curious to know if McCloud would consider meeting the 14-time Grammy winner because he himself is a musician and the CEO of an entertainment agency called Legend Tribe Entertainment.
When asked by TMZ about his plans to meet Swift, he denied it, saying:
“Although I congratulated her on winning the Album of the Year Grammy, at the Super Bowl, no one really cares about that.”
