Following a 1-1 tie in the five-match Test series against England, India is preparing for the third Test in Rajkot, which is set to take place on February 15. The Indian team has arrived in Rajkot and was warmly welcomed at Sayaji Hotel.
Urvesh Purohit, the hotel director, informed Aaj Tak that they have made special arrangements for the players. Skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have been assigned suites with a Saurashtra heritage theme, which is distinct from the Western-themed rooms. The players will also be served special Kathiyawadi cuisine.
The breakfast menu includes dishes like Thepla, Gathiya, Jalebi-Fafda, Khman, and Khakra. For dinner, the players will enjoy special Kathiyawadi delicacies such as Dahi Tikari, Vagherela Rotlo (Bajra Roti fried with yogurt and garlic), and Khichdi Kadhi.
The hotel director also disclosed that the Indian players have a fondness for Kathiyawadi food. He further mentioned that Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and even MS Dhoni are fans of Khichdi Kadhi.
Before the squad announcement, there were speculations regarding Shreyas Iyer being dropped due to his poor performance. However, some reports suggested that Iyer’s absence was due to an injury. Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell believes it was a wise decision to exclude Iyer from the Test squad considering his consistent failures with the bat.
In the first Test in Hyderabad, Iyer managed to score only 35 and 13 runs. In Vizag, he contributed 27 and 29 runs to the team’s total.
