The Danish tennis star was surprised when the German resigned from his position as the Head Coach for the Dane on Tuesday. Becker stepped down “due to professional and personal responsibilities”. This marked the end of a brief partnership. With Becker’s departure, Rune’s quest for the ‘ideal coach’ continues and the World No.7 has reflected on his struggles with the same.
Rune confessed that he has been unsuccessful in finding the perfect coach for himself over the past year. The Danish player also shared the potential reason behind this. Discussing future prospects, Rune states that he now understands what he is seeking. The Danish star desires someone who shares his vision and can dedicate time.
Ultimately, Rune expressed his gratitude to his coaching team and promised to provide an update about his new team very soon.
Boris Becker’s departure comes forty-eight days after Severin Luthi joined Holger Rune’s coaching team. The Swiss, who had previously worked with Roger Federer for a considerable period, recently teamed up with Rune. Now, with Becker parting ways, Luthi may be promoted to become Rune’s Head Coach.
Although Rune mentioned Luthi when thanking his coaching team, the 48-year-old has the potential to assume the position of Head Coach. Rune is struggling to find the perfect match, and Luthi’s addition to the Dane’s coaching team suggests that Rune sees the Swiss as his coach.
Additionally, Severin Luthi brings a strong background. The Swiss coach has worked with the legendary Federer and has also been involved with Switzerland’s Davis Cup team. However, there is a complication. According to media reports, Rune has already separated from Luthi due to scheduling conflicts.
This leaves the former Danish player as the only immediate option for Holger Rune. Carlsen has previously worked with Rune in short periods since his youth, including in the first week of 2024 when Rune finished as the runner-up to Grigor Dimitrov at the Brisbane International. Furthermore, Rune did not mention Carlsen in the story he shared on his Instagram.
