Derek Jeter made a wise choice in his life when he decided to pursue a career in baseball rather than gymnastics. The former shortstop for the New York Yankees was known for his ability to come through in clutch situations and make incredible defensive plays. Many of his defensive feats were so impressive that they seemed almost acrobatic and were rarely seen on the baseball field.
However, it is important to note that just because someone can make acrobatic plays in baseball does not necessarily mean they have the skills to excel in gymnastics. This is especially true for Jeter.
Recently, the Yankees legend attempted to do some cartwheels in his backyard while his wife, Hannah, recorded his efforts. You would think that someone as athletically gifted as “The Captain” would have no trouble with such a simple task. However, it turned out to be much more challenging for him than any of us could have imagined.
During his first attempt, Jeter’s feet barely left the ground. The same thing happened on his second and third attempts. Hannah watched the entire ordeal, finding it both amusing and slightly horrifying.
In a kind gesture, Derek shared the video of his failed cartwheel attempts with us on Instagram. As expected, many of his followers took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
“I can do something better than Jeter physically. This made my day,” one fan remarked.
“Pro Athlete, All Star, Hall of Famer, Dad, and yet he can’t do a cartwheel,” added another.
However, one user pointed out that seeing Jeter struggle with something was a rare sight.
“This is the only time we’ve witnessed Jeter fail,” they noted.
As for me, I am willing to cut him some slack. After all, he is 49 years old, which is not an easy age to learn how to do cartwheels. Plus, I struggle with them myself, so I can empathize with his difficulties. And this is coming from a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan.
