In a first for his career, Myles Garrett has been named the Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL.
However, as is customary with these awards, his selection was not without controversy.
T.J. Watt, a standout player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, posted superior numbers compared to any other defensive player in the league. Throughout the season, his brother J.J. campaigned tirelessly for him to win the award once again.
This led to a lot of curiosity about J.J.’s thoughts on Garrett winning the award instead of his younger brother.
Taking to Twitter, the former Houston Texans star made it clear that he had no intention of criticizing or belittling Garrett in any way.
“I have no interest in tearing down MG,” Watt tweeted. “I can acknowledge that while also wondering what more TJ could have possibly done.”
Many have been asking for my opinion on DPOY. I understand.
The truth is, I have no interest in criticizing Garrett.
Myles is an exceptional player, and I am a big fan. He has had an incredible career thus far.

Watt openly admitted to being a genuine fan of the Cleveland Browns star and recognized him as an outstanding player, so he chose not to delve into that matter.
The reality is that either player could have received the award this season.
Watt did achieve better statistics, and he is also an incredible player.
However, Garrett made a greater impact, often facing double or triple-teams to achieve his numbers, and that is where the distinction lies.
Fortunately, despite the changes in rules and the reduced impact defensive players can have compared to the past, the league still boasts highly talented defenders.
Now, it will be T.J.’s responsibility to demonstrate that he is the absolute best and perform like a man on a mission in the upcoming season.
