Jamahal Hill was informed about headlining UFC 300 just one day before it became public knowledge. On Saturday, Dana White revealed that Hill (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) will be challenging light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira (9-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) on April 13 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC has been diligently searching for a main event for UFC 300, and Hill received a last-minute offer which he gladly accepted.
According to Hill, the news of headlining UFC 300 came as a surprise to him. He stated, “Everybody wants to be on UFC 300, but it wasn’t on my radar until yesterday. When he called me and explained the situation, I realized that they needed a main event and they preferred it to be me and Alex. It was the first choice, and it made sense considering the demand from the fans.”
Hill will be making his return after relinquishing his belt due to a ruptured achilles tendon. Pereira claimed the vacant belt at UFC 295 by knocking out Jiri Prochazka. Hill is eager for the opportunity to regain his title and is excited about facing the challenge of Alex. He acknowledged Pereira’s impressive accomplishments, being a two-division champion in the UFC within just seven fights. Hill is looking forward to testing his skills against him.
Despite the short notice, Hill feels honored to headline such a historic event. He expressed his gratitude for being considered and trusted to lead a card of this magnitude.
