The family of a middle school fan of the Kansas City Chiefs is requesting that Jason Kelce return their son’s luchador mask, which he ended up wearing all night in Las Vegas after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. Elijah Smith, an eighth-grader from Dallas, stated in an interview with NBC News that he and his family encountered the former Philadelphia Eagles center after the game. During their interaction, Elijah asked Jason to take a photo with him while wearing his custom-made Chiefs luchador wrestling mask. Elijah explained, “I handed him my mask, and then he accidentally dropped it but picked it up again. Then I got a picture with him wearing it, and I spent some time with them for about five to ten minutes. They were dancing and having a great time.”
Unfortunately, due to the chaotic atmosphere in Las Vegas, Jason Kelce disappeared while still wearing Elijah’s luchador mask. This mask holds significant sentimental value for Elijah, as he considers it to be a good luck charm and has worn it during all four of the Chiefs’ championship victories. However, it appears that Jason Kelce no longer possesses the mask, as he was fully immersed in the festivities of the night.
Finding the mask in Las Vegas after the Super Bowl seems like an impossible task. As the lyrics of a song by Taylor Swift, who happens to be Jason’s future sister-in-law, suggest, “You’re on your own, kid.” Numerous photos taken throughout the night depict Jason proudly sporting Elijah’s luchador mask for hours. He even mentioned it during his recent “New Heights” podcast with his brother Travis, stating, “The night didn’t truly reach its peak until I discovered that luchador mask. Initially, when I arrived, you were trying to convince me to join you on stage, but I preferred to stay where I was. This was your moment. There’s something about finding that luchador mask that completely transformed the night.”
At one point, Jason publicly acknowledged and expressed his apologies to the owner of the mask he had taken over the dance floor with. Although this gesture was kind, it does not provide a solution to the current predicament. Jason Kelce has been thoroughly enjoying himself throughout the Chiefs’ playoff journey, as evident from various photographs.
While I may not be a parent myself, I was fortunate enough to be raised by exceptional ones. Based on my experience, one might assume that this is the point at which parents would intervene and inform their child that the mask is lost forever. However, Elijah’s father is now appealing to Jason Kelce to return the mask, as if he still possesses it days after that unforgettable night. “The only thing we ask, Jason, is that you return the mask before the start of the season,” Elijah’s father pleaded with NBC. “It holds immense luck, and the Chiefs need all the luck they can get. We apologize for not being Eagles fans.”
Well, Elijah’s dad, I highly doubt that Jason Kelce is intentionally holding onto your son’s wrestling mask. In the meantime, it’s safe to assume that Jason has become aware of Elijah’s desire to have his mask returned and is likely thinking, “Oh no, what have I done?”
However, let’s be realistic here. Wouldn’t it be absolutely fascinating if the Chiefs never won another Super Bowl championship after this incident? Imagine if Travis Kelce’s brother inadvertently cursed the team by losing the mask. That would certainly make for an intriguing storyline.
