The New York Jets had a disastrous start to the 2023 season. In just four plays during Week 1, Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP, suffered a torn Achilles. This injury quickly turned the tide for New York, and Rodgers was unable to return for the rest of the season. Fortunately, the 40-year-old veteran quarterback will be back for the 2024 season.
In light of this, Rodgers’ teammate, Sauce Gardner, has been actively seeking help on the offensive side of the game. It is almost certain that New York will go all out in the upcoming season, as they are unsure how much longer Rodgers will continue to play. The Jets need at least one successful season with him as their quarterback. That’s why Gardner has given himself the nickname “LeSauce,” drawing inspiration from how LeBron James is referred to as “LeGM” for his recruiting efforts and decision-making. Could “LeSauce” be the key to landing players like Mike Evans or Tee Higgins for the Jets this offseason?
@MikeEvans13_, remember what we discussed, LeSauce (GM) – SAUCE GARDNER (@iamSauceGardner) February 20, 2024
Despite being only two years into his NFL career, Sauce Gardner has already been selected as a first-team All-Pro twice. At just 23 years old, he is already considered one of the best players in his position. Gardner exudes confidence both on and off the field, as evident from his posts. It is no secret that the Jets would love to acquire another star wide receiver through free agency this offseason. Their number one cornerback has also made their desire for this clear.
Gardner reached out to Jets fans on social media, asking them who they would like the team to sign in free agency. He mentioned names like Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Davante Adams, and Jerry Jeudy. Mike Evans from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seems to be the player generating the most speculation. Gardner himself has even tagged Evans on social media, hinting at a conversation they had. It is difficult to determine how serious Gardner is about all of this, as he has a playful online personality and could simply be stirring up excitement.
Who do you want us to sign? Tee? Mike? Calvin? Davante? Jeudy? Or should I switch to wide receiver? It’s up to you all, lol – SAUCE GARDNER (@iamSauceGardner) February 19, 2024
For now, all of this remains speculation, and we will have to wait a few weeks until any real business can be conducted. The 2024 NFL free agency period will begin on March 13 at 4:00 p.m. EST. It is at this time that we will see how successful Sauce Gardner’s efforts have been in recruiting another star wide receiver for the Jets this offseason. With Garrett Wilson already on their roster, the addition of another WR1 or elite WR2 would make New York a formidable force.
