GEORGE FANT SENDS STRONG WARNING TO JETS: “STOP USING PFF AS THE BASIS!”
In a shocking turn of events, the New York Jets have received a stern warning from offensive tackle George Fant. The veteran player, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, expressed his frustration with the team’s reliance on Pro Football Focus (PFF) in a recent article.
Fant, who played for the Houston Texans in 2023, earned a respectable 60.4 pass-blocking grade from PFF. However, he believes that writers should watch the film themselves instead of relying solely on PFF’s analysis.
“I usually try to stay out of stuff like this, but at some point, it has to stop. If you are writing an article, watch the film yourself and stop using PFF as the basis,” Fant passionately stated.
This outburst comes after an article surfaced discussing free agents that the Jets should avoid this offseason. Fant’s response has sparked speculation that he may be interested in a reunion with the team.
The offensive tackle originally joined the Jets in 2020 on a lucrative three-year deal. Throughout his time with the team, Fant showcased his versatility by playing both left tackle and right tackle. Despite his willingness to adapt, Fant expressed frustration about constantly being moved around on the offensive line.
Head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged Fant’s versatility as both a “blessing and a curse.” However, Saleh hinted that the team may be more inclined to find Fant a permanent position in the upcoming season.
This shift in mindset aligns with the Jets’ approach to Alijah Vera-Tucker, who also possesses versatility. Saleh recently stated that the team aims to find Vera-Tucker one position to remain at moving forward.
As the offseason progresses, it remains to be seen whether the Jets will heed Fant’s warning and consider him as a valuable addition to their roster. One thing is for sure, though – Fant’s passion and dedication to his craft are undeniable.
JETS WARNED ABOUT POSSIBLE REUNION WITH FANT, BUT HE’S STILL ONE OF THE TOP TACKLES ON THE MARKET
In a recent article, sports analyst Tansey raised concerns about the New York Jets potentially reuniting with Fant due to his perceived weaknesses in pass protection. However, he also acknowledged that Fant is considered one of the best tackles available in free agency. With both starting tackle positions currently open, the Jets should not hesitate to sign a top player from the market.
Every player has their flaws, especially in free agency, but the Jets could provide Fant with additional support through chip blocks to address any pass protection issues. With 99 games and 73 starts under his belt, Fant brings valuable experience to the table. His presence would be a much-needed addition to the team’s offensive line.
As the Jets evaluate the market and their budget, they must carefully select the puzzle pieces that will best fit their needs. The ultimate goal is to assemble the strongest offensive line possible, regardless of how the pieces come together.
