Keith Thurman is prepared to dominate a fresh category by moving up to 154 pounds in a non-title 12-round bout against Tim Tsyu on March 30th, which will be available on Amazon Prime Pay-Per-View.
Thurman (30-1, 22 knockouts) has analyzed Tszyu’s technique and skills, perceiving him as vulnerable in their main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. ‘One Time’ aims to demonstrate that his impressive punching power has carried over to the 154-pound division.
The former welterweight champion, who held the WBA and WBC titles, is eager to showcase to the fans and the media what he already knows about his capabilities against Tszyu.
Despite being considered the underdog in this fight, Thurman, 35, is only in that position due to his inactivity over the past two years. Without that factor, he would likely be the favorite against the slow-moving and slow-handed Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs).
Securing His Place at the Top
“This is another opportunity. I can establish myself in this division with or without the belt. Keith Thurman is one of the most thrilling and talented boxers from the welterweight division, now making the move up,” Thurman stated to MillCity Boxing.
“I have been a challenge for everyone I’ve faced in the ring. I don’t see how it will be any different on March 30th. I have been a challenge for everyone. These fists will meet your face.”
If Thurman emerges victorious against the 29-year-old Tszyu, he has his sights set on facing Terence Crawford or Errol Spence Jr. These are two lucrative matchups that Keith has desired for years but was never granted the opportunity.
A Victory to Secure Future Fights
“It sounds like a lot of fun. I am the underdog; they doubt me. They lack faith in me. So, they want to see. They’re testing me. They want me to prove myself, and that’s why we signed the contract. It’s time to step up and show what I can do. Leonard Ellerbe has already spoken. ‘Keith Thurman is a live dog,'” Thurman expressed.
“I will enter the fight weighing 169 pounds. So, I will be considerably bigger on fight night, and he will feel it. This is not 147 pounds. It’s an entirely different division, and there’s a reason why the gloves go from eight ounces to ten ounces. We are much larger,” Tszyu stated to Fighthype.
