The Phoenix Suns created a new powerhouse team in the NBA during the offseason by completing a major trade to acquire Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. This move resulted in the Suns forming a trio of star players consisting of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Beal. Fans had high expectations for the Suns to dominate the league this season. However, due to Beal’s consistent injury problems, the Suns’ Big 3 has not been able to play many games together. Despite showing promise in the limited games they have played as a unit, NBA analyst Kenny Smith believes that the trio has yet to face a true challenge this season. Smith expressed his uncertainty about how they will perform defensively and offensively when put to the test. He wants to see the trio truly tested and evaluate their abilities on both ends of the court. Currently, Durant has emerged as the top player on the roster, averaging 28.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game for the Suns. Booker follows closely behind with 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game. Beal, on the other hand, is the third option on the team, contributing 18.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Unfortunately, Beal’s injury issues have made him the weakest link in the Big 3, as he has only played in 30 games this season. Despite this setback, the Suns have managed to achieve a 33-22 record and were the fifth seed in the Western Conference before the 2024 NBA All-Star break.
