Ayao Komatsu, the principal of the Haas F1 Team, has stated that owner Gene Haas is willing to provide additional funds to the Formula 1 squad, under the condition that it is used responsibly. Komatsu has emphasized the importance of avoiding unnecessary waste and ensuring sustainable use of the money. He revealed that Haas made it clear from the beginning that he is prepared to invest, but wants to see responsible and efficient use of the funds. Komatsu believes that there are many areas where improvements can be made, and he is confident that once the team demonstrates responsible usage of the money, Haas will be willing to invest further.
Komatsu acknowledged that Haas has already taken steps to invest in the team’s infrastructure. He mentioned the commissioning of a new motorhome for next year, which he described as a significant investment. Additionally, the team has been given approval to recruit new members. Komatsu is confident that Haas is following through on his commitment to invest and believes that it is now the team’s responsibility to use the funds responsibly.
Komatsu clarified that the agreement to construct a new motorhome was made before the start of the 2024 season, indicating Haas’ willingness to invest even before the team’s positive start to the season. Despite having to wait until the end of the season for new hires to join, Komatsu assured that the team will not waste any time in the meantime. Haas has already introduced performance upgrades in the first four rounds of the campaign and plans to continue developing the VF-24 car.
Komatsu emphasized the team’s focus on what they can control and their efforts to make efficient use of their current resources. He expressed the goal of bringing updates to the car as early as possible, demonstrating their commitment to improving performance.
