The Los Angeles Lakers are a team that will always be focused on immediate success. This will remain true as long as LeBron James is leading their team. Having said that, any superstar player who becomes available will surely catch the Lakers’ attention. It appears that the Lakers may not be able to acquire a star player before the trade deadline on Thursday. However, they could be looking to make a move during the offseason. One player who might be on the trade market is Donovan Mitchell, a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Since joining Cleveland, he has proven to be one of the league’s top players. However, the Cavs may be interested in making a change. According to Bill Reiter, as reported by NBACentral, the Lakers are feeling positive about their chances of acquiring Mitchell this summer.
Acquiring Mitchell will be a challenging task. It is likely that a significant trade package will be required in return. Nevertheless, the Lakers should be open to parting ways with any player on their roster except for James and Anthony Davis. If the Lakers are truly committed to competing for another championship, this is the kind of move they must make. This season, it does not appear that the Lakers pose a serious threat. They currently hold the ninth spot in the Western Conference standings and lack the potential of the top teams. Nonetheless, the Lakers’ front office will always do whatever they can to support the team’s pursuit of a championship. James may only have a few more years remaining in his NBA career, and it would be unfair to him if the Lakers did not go all-in.
