The Charlotte Hornets have struggled to find success as a franchise. There was optimism in the past when they reached the NBA Play-In Tournament, believing that their young core would be the turning point for the team. However, this hope was shattered when their supposed franchise player, LaMelo Ball, was caught laughing on the bench during a blowout loss to the Knicks. To make matters worse, the opposing fans were chanting “Let’s Go Knicks” while this was happening. It was a truly embarrassing moment for Ball, who has played in less than half of the team’s games and missed additional matches. It’s hard to imagine what could have been so amusing for him to be laughing in a game they ultimately lost 113-92.
The Hornets’ record of 10-35 is abysmal. While rookie Brandon Miller shows promise, the core players of PJ Washington, Miles Bridges, and Ball have failed to progress and create a competitive team on the court. It’s clear that they lack the drive to improve and deliver a quality performance.
Last offseason, Michael Jordan sold the team, and in hindsight, it appears to be a wise decision. Not only are these players underperforming, but they also seem disinterested in their own performance.
On the other hand, the Knicks are thriving. They have won seven consecutive games and have a record of 13-2 since acquiring OG Anunoby. Currently, they are just half a game behind the Sixers for the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a 30-17 record.
