Detroit Lions Sign Offensive Lineman Netane Muti to Contract
In a surprising move, the Detroit Lions have bolstered their offensive line by signing Netane Muti to a reserve/future contract. While many pundits have been calling for the Lions to focus on their defense this offseason, this signing shows that the team is also looking to add depth to their offensive line.
The announcement was made on the Lions’ official social media account, where they shared the news of Muti joining the team. Muti, who previously played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, appeared in two games during that season. Although he only saw limited action on offense, with just one snap, he made his presence felt on special teams, playing 12 snaps.
Prior to the 2020 NFL draft, Muti received high praise from Lance Zierlein of NFL.com. Zierlein commended Muti’s blocking power, describing him as a “thick-boned guard prospect with heavy hands” and noting his ability to dominate near the line of scrimmage. Despite facing a series of serious injuries that limited his game time, Muti’s style of play is characterized by a strong and static approach.
Muti also brings experience from his time with the Denver Broncos, where he played for three seasons from 2020 to 2022. This background adds further depth to his skill set and makes him a valuable addition to the Lions’ offensive line.
As the Lions continue to make moves this offseason, it remains to be seen whether they will address their defensive needs as well. However, the signing of Muti demonstrates their commitment to strengthening their offensive line and ensuring they have a solid foundation for the upcoming season.
