LAS VEGAS – Loma Lookboonmee presents a strong argument for the inclusion of an atomweight category following UFC Fight Night 236. Lookboonmee (9-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) emerged victorious in a unanimous decision against Bruna Brasil (9-4-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) this past Saturday at the UFC Apex. The only aspect that caught Lookboonmee off guard during the fight was the significant size difference she felt against Brasil, who possessed a 5-inch height advantage and a 4-inch reach advantage. Ideally, Lookboonmee believes that the UFC should introduce a 105-pound division.
“The most surprising thing for me was the sheer size of my opponent,” Lookboonmee shared. Extending her winning streak to three, Lookboonmee now has her sights set on climbing the UFC’s strawweight rankings. As the sole Thai fighter on the UFC roster, she believes that the addition of an atomweight division would benefit numerous fighters, not just herself.
“I believe that if the UFC were to introduce a 105-pound division, I would be the first fighter to compete in it,” Lookboonmee expressed. “Furthermore, I believe it would create countless opportunities for Asian women – not only those from Thailand, but from all across Asia. Therefore, I genuinely hope that the UFC decides to make this move. People often reach out to me, asking if it will happen, but unfortunately, I cannot provide any definite answers.”
