When it comes to electric vehicles, the Lucid Air is undoubtedly a solid choice. Lucid, the manufacturer, is one of the most promising startups in the United States. I’ve mentioned it before, and I’ll say it again: this carmaker deserves to thrive, not just survive. That’s why I’m pleased that Saudi Arabia is investing in Peter Rawlinson’s dream, the former Chief Engineer of Tesla Model S.
The Air, which is produced in Arizona, is not just a copy or a conversion of an internal combustion engine platform. It is a “zero-emission” sedan that has been meticulously designed from scratch to be the best it can be. It represents the dreams, aspirations, and investments of numerous individuals who have dedicated their time, energy, and money to bring it to fruition.
Of course, no one is claiming that the Air is flawless. It does have a few drawbacks of its own. However, much like Rivian, Lucid has demonstrated that when you want to offer an alternative, you can do so without compromising quality or treating customers as beta testers.
If you’re interested in giving the Lucid Air a chance, there has never been a better time to do so. The carmaker has recently introduced significant discounts for the Pure, Touring, and Grand Touring models. The only version that remains at the same price is the tri-motor Sapphire, which has the potential to become an exceptionally fast track car.
The single-motor rear-wheel-drive Air Pure now has a price tag of $69,900 and boasts 430 horsepower. Lucid has applied a $7,500 discount, which is equivalent to the full amount of the EV tax credit.
Additionally, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Air Pure, which previously had an MSRP of $82,400, has also received a price reduction.
For those seeking more power and all-wheel drive, the 620-horsepower Lucid Air Touring is the ideal choice. It now starts at $77,900 and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, 1.1 seconds faster than the Air Pure. Both models offer a similar range of approximately 410 miles. Upgrading to the Touring version does not mean sacrificing performance. They also share the same 92-kWh high-voltage energy storage unit.
However, if you have a bit more money to spare, the Air Grand Touring might be more enticing with its revised price tag of $109,900. It delivers an impressive 819 horsepower, allowing it to reach 60 mph from a standstill in just three seconds. The range is also improved, reaching 516 miles. If the 350-kW DC chargers in your area function properly, you can charge the 112-kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 35 minutes.
According to a test conducted in June 2023, the Air Grand Touring is currently the fastest-charging electric vehicle on the market. However, it’s important to note that actual results may vary depending on the specific model being compared. Many new EVs have been released since that test, and it’s also crucial to consider the charging curve.
But perhaps the most appealing aspect of the Air Grand Touring is that it is now $15,700 more affordable than before.
In a bid to make the offer even more enticing, Lucid is also providing potential buyers with an opportunity to receive $1,000 towards the purchase of a charging accessory, such as a home charging station. Additionally, the brand is including a two-year or 24,000-mile complimentary maintenance package with every purchase or lease.
Regrettably, it seems that the previously available complimentary fast-charging benefits are no longer being offered by Lucid. In the past, the brand provided customers with up to two years of free charging sessions through Electrify America.
It is worth noting that this is the first adjustment to Lucid’s pricing structure in 2024. Over the course of the previous year, the brand implemented price reductions on multiple occasions. Furthermore, they introduced the Air Pure, a single-motor model that serves as their most affordable option.
With these incentives in place, it is hoped that Lucid will experience an increase in electric vehicle sales until the release of the Gravity, their highly anticipated flagship model.
