David Malukas will not be able to participate in the beginning of the upcoming NTT IndyCar Series season. Consequently, his team, Arrow McLaren, is currently searching for a temporary replacement for their new young driver in the No. 6 Chevy.
The team announced that Malukas underwent successful surgery on Tuesday, February 13 to repair torn ligaments in his dislocated left wrist, which occurred during a mountain biking incident over the weekend. The estimated recovery time is six weeks, with the stitches set to be removed on February 22. The team is currently assessing potential reserve drivers for the No. 6 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet and will make an announcement regarding the driver in due course.
Malukas expressed his disappointment regarding the situation, particularly due to its proximity to the start of the season. He also expressed sympathy for the team, who have put in significant effort to prepare for their inaugural season together. Malukas is determined to make a swift return to the track and is eager to race with the team in their papaya-colored car.
Despite the setback, the team remains fully supportive of the 22-year-old driver. Team principal Gavin Ward acknowledged the heartbreaking nature of the incident for both Malukas and the entire team. He emphasized the importance of bouncing back from setbacks and adversity, as it is these moments that truly define one’s character. The team is committed to providing all necessary support to Malukas during his recovery, and they believe that his eventual return to the track will be even more rewarding.
