Marc Marquez has disclosed that he has had discussions with MotoGP factory teams regarding the 2025 season, stating that he has more than one option available to him.
The Spanish rider decided to leave his Honda contract in 2024 in order to join the Gresini Ducati team and ride a 2024-spec bike, as Honda was not competitive.
This season has started off well for the eight-time champion, with two podium finishes in the Sprints at Portimao and COTA, providing a solid foundation.
Last weekend at Jerez was his best performance since switching teams, as Marquez finished second after an exciting battle with reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia.
Having signed a one-year deal with Gresini, Marquez is being considered as a potential candidate for a promotion to a factory team for the 2025 season.
Marquez is being considered for a Ducati ride alongside current points leader Jorge Martin and current rider Enea Bastianini, but he has indicated that it is his only choice.
“The most important thing is that the results are coming. So far, there has been speed but no results,” he said after Monday’s Jerez test.
“Let’s see if we confirm it at Le Mans. I have always said that the faster you go on the track, the more options you have.
“The key thing is that ‘the plan’ is going well, and when there are results, the factories contact me and there have already been discussions.”
“Mentally, I am clear about what I want.”
When asked if securing a Ducati seat depends on him, he told Autosport: “Well, it depends on various factors, but what matters is that I have a clear understanding and I have more than one option.”
The 2024 season has already seen the Italian manufacturer extend Bagnaia’s contract for two more years until 2026.
Moto2 rising star Fermin Aldeguer will join one of the Ducati teams for 2025, but it has not yet been announced which team the Spanish rider will end up with.
Brad Binder has also extended his contract with KTM until the end of 2026, which potentially opens the door for Marquez to join the Austrian manufacturer as well.
