Marc Marquez secured his first pole position with Gresini Ducati in the rain-soaked qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez. He posted an impressive time of 1.46.773s, edging out Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin on their VR46 and Pramac Ducati bikes respectively. The challenging conditions allowed Marquez and Bezzecchi to showcase their skills, while Martin finished just behind them. Franco Morbidelli made a strong comeback in Q2, placing himself between Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini on the third row. Pedro Acosta showed great potential, gaining half a second on his lap time before a crash in the final corner dropped him to 10th place. Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro from Factory Aprilia struggled in the mixed conditions, finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Johann Zarco impressed in Q1, securing 13th place on the grid. Miguel Oliveira finished closely behind for Trackhouse Aprilia.
Jack Miller, who has been struggling this season, qualified disappointingly in 15th place. Dani Pedrosa, a wildcard entry and three-time MotoGP runner-up, closely matched his teammate’s performance. Raul Fernandez will start 17th, while his teammate Augusto Fernandez continues to struggle, settling for 18th place. Honda’s Stefan Bradl finished 19th, ahead of 2020 champion Joan Mir in 20th. Lorenzo Savadori, Aprilia’s test and development rider, secured 21st place, followed by Luca Marini in 22nd.
