Martin Brundle believes that the bid made by Andretti lacks a long-term vision. According to Brundle, Formula One rejected Andretti’s bid because they didn’t think their car would be competitive and they didn’t see any additional value that the American team could bring to the series. Brundle, a former race driver and current F1 commentator, expressed his opinion on this matter during his Skysports F1 podcast. He stated that he would prefer to see four new drivers and an 11th or 12th team on the grid. Brundle personally doesn’t have any issues with Andretti or how others feel about the new team, but he does understand the concerns that people have. He believes that while Andretti is well-known in America, it’s important to consider the long-term implications in Formula One. Brundle emphasized the need for more reliable teams, as there are no guarantees in this sport. Despite the rejection by Formula 1, General Motors still has faith in their application for a future Andretti Cadillac entry. The vice president of performance and motorsports at General Motors stated that their teams are still working on the car at their own pace. The team had requested a meeting with F1 after an IT glitch caused an invitation to Andretti to be misplaced. The bid was initially approved by the FIA in October and then passed on to the F1 CEO. Although there were doubts about the team’s ability to compete, the situation could change when Cadillac’s power unit is ready in 2028 and the team receives financial support.
