Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons believes that his team should bring back running back Tony Pollard. Parsons expressed his belief in an interview with Stephen A Smith, stating that Pollard was catching his rhythm again towards the end of the season. Despite suffering a catastrophic injury that resulted in a fractured fibula and tibia, Pollard showed improvement and even mentioned that he was just getting back to himself. Parsons thinks that Pollard deserves another shot.
Pollard is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March when the new league year begins. The Dallas Cowboys selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In the 2022 season, Pollard had an impressive performance, accumulating 1,378 yards and 12 touchdowns on 232 touches. Unfortunately, his preparation for the 2023 season was hindered by the fractured fibula he sustained during the team’s divisional-round loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
This year, Pollard’s numbers took a hit as he only averaged four yards per carry on 252 attempts. His dip in production affected the Cowboys’ offense, causing them to drop from ninth in rushing yards per contest in 2022 to 15th in 2023. Despite this, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Pollard last offseason, and he played on a one-year, $10-million fully guaranteed deal.
Parsons acknowledged that Pollard had been off since January and had a slow start to the season. He didn’t participate in OTAs or minicamp, gradually working his way back into football during training camp. Currently, the Cowboys only have Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis under contract as running backs for the 2024 season. Pollard has accumulated 3,621 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in his 79 career games.
