Former world champion Mickey Bey predicts a straightforward victory for WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney over Ryan Garcia on April 20th, which will be broadcast live on DAZN.
According to Bey, Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) will not win a single round and will face a severe beating from Haney, resulting in the referee intervening to stop the fight in either the ninth or tenth round.
Haney’s cautious fighting style means that he is unlikely to score a knockout against Ryan, as he no longer engages in brawls with his opponents after suffering significant damage in consecutive fights against Jorge Linares and Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz in 2021.
These fights led Haney to adopt a more cautious approach, similar to Shakur Stevenson’s style, which has hindered his progress in becoming a star. American fans do not enjoy watching boring fighters, and Haney falls into that category.
For this reason, Bey’s prediction of a knockout seems unlikely. Haney is too afraid to take risks and knock out Ryan or any top-tier opponent. Haney has not scored a knockout since his fourth-round stoppage of Zaur Abdullaev, a fringe contender in the 135-pound weight class, back in 2019. That was five years ago.
Money is a strong motivator for Garcia in this fight. “It’s already a guaranteed sellout with these two fighters. The timing is perfect,” Mickey Bey commented to MillCity Boxing about the April 20th match between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. “Ryan is going to want that bag. He’s going to want that money.
“We all know Devin isn’t going anywhere. So, I definitely believe this fight will happen. Devin,” stated Bey when asked who he thinks will win. “It won’t even be close. Ryan won’t even win a single round. I think Devin will stop him.
Has the “Killer Instinct” Disappeared?
“Haney will beat him up, and the referee will have to intervene. I believe the referee will have to stop the fight. I commend Ryan for accepting this challenge. He doesn’t hesitate. He jumped right into it and got it done quickly. I truly commend Ryan for his swift action.
“I think Devin will beat him up and stop him in the ninth or tenth round. He’s capable of even more,” Bey added when asked if Haney possesses the killer instinct. “His training emphasized hitting without getting hit.”
It would be quite surprising if Haney attempts to knock out Ryan, as he would be putting himself at risk.
