Swedish golfer Mikael Lindberg emerged as the victor at the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open, the second tournament of the Challenge Tour’s initial four events held in South Africa and organized in collaboration with the Sunshine Tour. Lindberg secured the win in an exciting playoff, clinching it with a birdie on the second hole. His victory came after a tough competition against South African player Ryan Van Velzen. The tournament took place at the Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town, which has a par of 72.
One notable performance in the final round came from Pietro Bovari, who made an impressive comeback by climbing 22 spots. Bovari scored a 67 (-5) with seven birdies and two bogeys, finishing 37th with a score of 281 (-7). Lindberg, who had been leading after 54 holes, solidified his victory in the third round by moving from 38th place to first.
Despite their strong performances, South African players once again fell short of victory in their home event. However, they did achieve notable results, with five players finishing in the top ten. Louis Albertse secured third place with a score of 273 (-15), while JC Ritchie and Robin Sciot-Siegrist tied for fourth place with 274 (-14). Toto Thimba Jr, Shaun Norris, and Rupert Kaminski, along with Martin Couvra, Lars Van Meijel, and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, all tied for sixth place with a score of 275 (-13).
Aron Zemmer and Gregorio De Leo were unable to make the cut, finishing tied for 71st place with a score of 142 (-2). Lindberg’s victory at the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open adds to his impressive record, which includes five victories on the Nordic Golf League and one on the Swedish Golf Tour. He received a prize of €51,489 from a purse of approximately €323,000.
