In March of 2019, the Los Angeles Angels signed outfielder Mike Trout to a contract extension. Until the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani a few weeks ago, it was the largest contract in baseball in terms of total value: a 12-year, $426.5 million deal. Trout, a three-time MVP winner, has faced injuries in recent seasons but remains exceptional when in good health. The Angels, on the other hand, have been in disarray, failing to reach the postseason since 2014. Even with the presence of Ohtani and Trout, the Angels have struggled, and now it will be up to Trout alone. Many individuals on social media and possibly within his inner circle have suggested that Trout should request or even insist on a trade. However, the star dismissed these rumors and expressed his commitment to staying in LA. “Mike Trout conveyed to the media that he is currently satisfied in Anaheim and views being traded as an ‘easy way out’,” FOX Sports MLB reported. Trout is displaying loyalty to the Angels, despite not always receiving the same in return. The organization hasn’t always provided a competitive roster surrounding Trout and Ohtani, yet despite this, Trout is not seeking a trade. This isn’t to say that it won’t happen in the future, and there are arguments in favor of the Angels benefiting from trading him, such as salary relief and acquiring prospects. However, Trout appears to be an Angel for life. Whether the organization can strengthen the team around him remains uncertain, but currently, they appear to be the fourth-best team in the division.
