Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic will no longer face charges of domestic violence as his wife has chosen not to testify against him. He will be released on bail pending further proceedings.
Lucic took a leave of absence from the team in November following an alleged incident, and was subsequently arrested. Reports suggest that he appeared to be under the influence when he returned home on November 17 and allegedly assaulted his wife, Brittany. While she stated that he attempted to pull her hair, she did not mention being choked.
Assistant District Attorney Samuel Jones argued that Brittany was clearly distressed and had fled their apartment due to the incident. She later revealed that she was afraid to return because Lucic had placed his hands around her neck. However, the judge deemed the 911 call made by Lucic’s wife inadmissible, and his attorney claimed that the call did not identify Lucic as a suspect. The attorney also suggested that Brittany may have been intoxicated when she made the call, potentially casting doubt on the veracity of her story. Furthermore, he argued that if she had been choked, there should have been visible marks on her neck, which were not evident to the first responders.
Lucic was part of the Bruins team that won the Stanley Cup in 2011. Following the 2014-15 season, he was traded to the Kings before playing for the Oilers and the Flames. He recently returned to Boston this year and has recorded two points in four appearances this season.
