In a departure from its predecessors, the latest iteration of the Countryman boasts a larger size, sleeker design, minimalist aesthetic, and improved environmental friendliness. Since its unveiling in September 2023, MINI has been gradually introducing the compact SUV in key markets such as Europe, North America, and Australia.
Speaking specifically about Australia, the initial launch last year included two gasoline-powered versions: the Countryman C and S. However, MINI has promised to expand its product lineup, and now we have the release schedule for the upcoming additions. These new models are set to arrive at dealerships during the third quarter of this year, offering eager customers the choice of two additional all-electric variants and a flagship version.
MINI has announced that it will be introducing the Countryman E, SE ALL4, and JCW Countryman ALL4 to the Australian market. With these new electric vehicles, the BMW Group will have a total of 20 different all-electric models available for sale in Australia, solidifying the company’s position as the leading provider of electric vehicles in the country. Rest assured, all of these models will embody the signature “MINI charm” and incorporate the modern iconic design elements introduced by the ‘Charismatic Simplicity’ design language.
The increased dimensions of the Countryman will provide enhanced comfort within the new technology suite. Notable features include a 240-mm round OLED central touchscreen and eight MINI Experience Modes, as well as the Driving and Parking Assistant Plus, which aim to make the driving experience more enjoyable and convenient. The base option for all-electric adopters is the Countryman E, equipped with a single electric motor producing 150 kW (201 hp), an acceleration time of 8.6 seconds from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph), and a battery capacity of 63.8 kWh, enabling a range of up to 462 km (287 miles).
The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 takes the electric game up a notch with dual motors and all-wheel drive, delivering a combined power output of 230 kW (308 hp) and an acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. Despite the increased power, the range only slightly decreases to 432 km (268 miles) on a single charge. Moreover, the battery can be charged from zero to 80% in just 29 minutes at high-speed DC stations. Lastly, the top-of-the-line JCW Countryman ALL4 features a turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 233 kW (312 hp).
Pricing for the Countryman E starts at AUD64,990, equivalent to over $40,000 based on the current exchange rate. The Countryman SE ALL4, available in the Classic trim, is priced at AUD72,990 (over $47,000), while the JCW Countryman ALL4 starts from AUD67,990, which is approximately $44,000 and surprisingly cheaper than the sporty electric variant.
