Jan Monchaux, the former technical director of Sauber, has been appointed as the new technical director for single-seaters at the FIA, replacing Tim Goss. The FIA recently confirmed several departures, including Goss, who will be joining Visa Cash App RB as chief technical officer later this year. Monchaux’s appointment to the FIA’s single-seater department has now been officially announced. Prior to joining the governing body, Monchaux had a successful career with Toyota and Ferrari before returning to Sauber in 2018 after a stint with Audi.
In his new role as technical director, Monchaux expressed his enthusiasm for the challenges that lie ahead. Having worked on the competitors’ side for many years, he is now excited about the opportunity to contribute to the future of the sport alongside the governing body. Monchaux’s expertise and experience will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the 2026 regulations in Formula 1.
Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA’s single-seater director, welcomed Monchaux to the team and emphasized the importance of his role in the technical department. Tombazis also highlighted that Monchaux’s arrival will further enhance the FIA’s extensive technical expertise.
It is worth noting that Monchaux had been working as a pundit and analyst in F1 towards the end of the 2023 season. He had been replaced as the technical director of Alfa Romeo by James Key in June of the previous year.
