MLB fans worldwide are expressing their dissatisfaction with the recently released Nike Vapor Premier jerseys even before the start of the 2024 season. The on-field Vapor Premier jerseys have been heavily criticized online, with some labeling them as “inferior.” Out of the 300 players who tested the jerseys, many were unhappy with the fit. Despite being intended for use by all 30 teams in the league, the jerseys faced severe backlash even before the start of the 2024 season.
These jerseys are designed to be worn by players during Spring training. Nine teams, namely the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, LA Dodgers, NY Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, and Toronto Blue Jays, will also be sporting the Nike MLB City Connect uniforms.
While some players expressed discontent with their uniforms, others had positive reviews. Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas commented, “I don’t like them. Everyone should write about it,” according to Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch. Mikolas also mentioned that the fit was not right and described the jerseys as looking “cheap” in the spring training clubhouse. On the other hand, Braves player Ronald Acuna Jr. complimented the jerseys, stating that they fit better and felt lighter. Cardinals player Nolan Arenado also praised the jerseys, comparing them to his favorite shirt.
Unlike previous years, Nike took charge of all the designs and jersey programs in collaboration with MLB’s partner, Fanatics. Nike even scanned 300 baseball players prior to the release to ensure an ideal fit, which was intended to be more athletic and form-fitting compared to previous designs.
Unfortunately, the jerseys failed to meet fans’ expectations, leading to criticism on social media platforms. One user on X (formerly known as X) expressed their disappointment, saying, “Don’t deceive us and claim it’s rain. You compromised on quality to release a subpar product at a higher price, all for the sake of profit margins.” Another user commented, “Wow! The jerseys look cheap and flimsy, just like Fanatics itself!”
Despite the negative feedback from fans, the Nike Vapor Premier jerseys received acceptance from various players. As the 2024 season commences and players begin their spring training sessions, another exciting year of MLB awaits.
